Just for starters, here's an inspirational story that I recently heard. It's two Super Sailors and a dog who've put a unique twist on open sea sailing.

Super sailors and a dog

Terry and Monica Darlington and their dog named Jim

Narrowboat on a canal

Crossing the English Channel?

It's one of the world's busiest sea routes which many a sailor has accomplished... but... not in a narrowboat! That's exactly what inspirational and remarkable retirees Terry and Monica Darlington did in their narrowboat called Phyllis May.

These Super Sailors and their ever faithful Jim embarked on their virgin voyage across the seas navigating their narrowboat from the Midland's canals, across the English Channel and into France. But having achieved that remarkable feat, they broadened their horizons. Their next adventure was to take on the Americas navigating 1100 miles of its east coast. The story is well documented in the Midlands but best told by Terry himself, who is not only a magnificent mariner, he's also an accomplished and humurous writer, publishing books on their adventures. Click on the links below to dive into this inspirational story. And you could also check out Terry and Monica's web-site at www.narrowdog.com where you can hear it directly from this amazing couple.

Keith, the geniune single-handed sailor

Keith's story

Many moons ago, back in the early 1990's, Keith was travelling as a passenger along the M1 whereupon an articulated lorry lost control and careered across the carriageway. Being caught up in the ensuing motorway pile up, amongst many other injuries, Keith's left arm was crushed beyond use. But that didn't stop him from getting on with life. After a period of recovery, he continued working in the construction industry, bringing up his young family, and most especially, got on with sailing.

So Keith really is a genuine single-handed sailor who sails solo round the world. He just loves sailing!
